It all started off in Greek mythology with Paris judgind three naked women to choose the 'fairest one'. What does it mean to be 'the fairest'? This is hard to define and vaguely explained by the organisers of today's beauty contests as "this something special". Personally, I don't think a beauty contest or dancing in biniki in front of people who are there to judge you is fair for anybody. I would find it rather humiliating than a chance to become something better. But I dindn't have to dance, I could take a comfortable position of a camera holder. Looking and not being looked at. Watching but trying not to gaze, trying to avoid the male gaze. My question is- can a beauty contest be viewed without the voyeuristic element? Can we look at the personalities, faces and smiles and forget about boobs, bums and bikinis? I dare to doubt.

It is my last semester of the four years of my Bachelor degree, it is absolutely hectic right now so working on various projects doesn't really leave much time for anything else... even for food! Sometimes however you come up with the simplest and the most amazing things, and it's usually when you think you've got nothing left in your fridge. So there you go - pasta boiled with veggie stock cube, covere with fried mashrooms, tomatoes, sprinkled with some basil and Peri-Peri. Yum!

This was a very successful year and I'm happy with what I've done.

I faced all the challenges, I gained a lot, I learned a lot and still have an appetite for more.

I exhibited my photography works twice in Dublin.

For the first time in my life I went to a huge music festival during the summer and saw Coldplay live.

Visiting Madrid was certainly one of the highlights.

Thanks to the Couchsurfing I met a lot of fantastic people.

I made my long planned film about fashion photography.

Yes, this year was very good to me. I hope next one will be even better!

Inspired by the most frequent feature of my procrastination I decided to do one of my college projects on Facebook. It proved to be a bottomless well of resources which in this case were profile pictures of my friends. I sneakily collected those with faces positioned front or almost front to the camera and saved them on my computer. Yes, I felt like a stalker and a thief in one but this I'll have to bear in the name of art. Besides, those whom I used feel actually quite proud to be a part of the project while those whom I haven't used felt disapointed and almost mad at me for omitting them! Good news i that I'm planning on more of these portraits... so beware!

I took the photos with a Lomography Fisheye 2 camera and an old Canon (I can't remember the model). Most of them were shot with the special colour Lomography negatives, like this one http://microsites.lomography.com/filmshop/lomography/color_negative_400 They were great fun to use because of their fabulous old colours which are visible in some of the pictures. 

The project was made on the city parks in Dublin, with my favourite - Herbert Park in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 and a very pleasant Bushy Park in Templeogue, Dublin 6. The story was supposed to picture different indivuals and the lack of them in those parks, where you actually enjoy the solitude. I hated asking people to be photographed so it is not entirely focused on people but it has its imaginative story of the Amelie's world. 

When it comes to the technical side of the project, I enjoyed working on the Fisheye 2 but was very disappoited with its short life! I started having issues with it after a month of usage, exchanged it for a new one and then had another five months of it before it started completely falling apart... ehh plastic not so fantastic. Luckily I got a refund for the faulty product.

This is how my adventure with Lomography came to an end.
